Here, we present the key players.

Carly Fiorina

Fiorina now sits on the board of Cybertrust, a computer security firm, and also serves as the director of the Revolution Health Group. Having worked in various capacities for Marcus & Millichap, as well as computer conglomerate Hewlett-Packard, Fiorina’s name is in bold face in the world of technology. Best known for her work at HP as CEO, Fiorina has been named the most powerful woman in business by Fortune magazine several years running.

Marissa Mayer
Vice President of Search Product and User Experience at Google, Mayer was the first female engineer to be hired by the massive search engine company. President of Yahoo! Inc., Decker also serves on the board of directors for Intel, Costco, and Berkshire Hathaway. At Yahoo!, Decker is in charge of all global business operations. She has also run Yahoo's Advertiser and Publisher Group. Prior to that, she was Yahoo!'s Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Decker holds BS Degrees from Tufts University in computer science and economics as well as an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Meg Whitman

Perhaps one of the most influential and innovative women in technology is Whitman. Serving as the President of eBay since 1998, Whitman has taken the company from just under 30 employees to well over 10,000. She also serves on the Board of Directors for both Proctor & Gamble and DreamWorks Animation, both whom she worked for before taking eBay to new heights. Consistently making Forbes' Top 100 list, eBay continues to grow on a yearly basis making them the number 1 online auction site in the world.

Carol Bartz

Carol Bartz was the CEO of Autodesk, maker of the popular AutoCAD software, for 15 years. Cali Lewis

How to Save on Toner

If you do a lot of printing, whether it is at work or at home, then I'm sure you'd like to cut costs on toner and other consumables. The more you print the more money you are going to spend on things like toner and paper. However, if you have a color laser printer, then there are a few ways that you can save yourself, or your company, money on toner.

The first way to save money is not to panic when you see the “low toner” light on. All you have to do is take the cartridge out of the printer and shake it very gently. By doing this you are waking up your cartridge for a few more print cycles. The light should go off and this will save you money by using your toner cartridge to the last drop. If it doesn’t work, then you know it is actually dry and it is time to order more toner.

Another way to save on toner is to buy in bulk so you get a discount on your large order. Toner bundles are a great way to save money, as the bundle price is cheaper than buying each cartridge individually. You can also save on your order if your order is over a certain price amount, since you will most likely receive free shipping.

Another way to save money on your toner is by buying a laser printer that has a separate toner cartridge and drum unit. Although some printers are sold with the toner cartridge and the drum as one unit, you usually end up replacing the toner more than the drum. Buying them together can be easier to install, but why keep buying a drum that doesn’t need to be replaced? How to Save Paper in Your Office and at Home

Are you tired of seeing blank pieces of paper thrown away because someone printed one line on them? I know I do! There are many ways to save paper. Everyone is talking about saving trees and “Going Green.” It is about time we ALL did our part. You probably already have a few ideas, but here are a few of my own ideas to give everyone in your office.

The first thing you should do before you print your paper is check to see what the page is going to look like when you print it. Most printers have a print preview page that shows you what your images will look like when printed. If there is a page that you don’t need, don’t print it. You can print a few pages if you need to. If you only need pages four and five of a document, then go to print and check that you only need pages four and five printed. This will save you ink as well as paper. You are only going to throw the paper away so why even print it? Just print the documents you need on the right paper.

Another great way to save paper is to keep paper that you printed accidentally for scrap paper. Everyone needs a scratch piece of paper in the office for something, even if it is as trite as writing a grocery list. Get a box and keep the extra paper in there. This will keep them from grabbing brand new sheets of paper from the printer to write their “to do” list or to sketch out an idea or design. This can also be used for printing a test page on. Many times people do not run a test page and they start printing copies of reports or other business items. They catch a mistake and it takes about five to ten copies to come out of the machine before you can stop your printer. This is just wasted paper.

Buying paper in bulk is always cheaper too. When you buy in bulk you get several reams of paper in a box. Not only is the box handy for holding scratch paper next to the printer later, but many companies offer shipping discounts on orders over a certain amount or bulk size.

Duplex printing can also save you a lot of paper. If you do a lot of faxing, especially one page faxes, then you will save a lot of paper since the cover sheet plus the one page will only equal one sheet of paper instead of two. Obviously, you will continue to cut down on paper the longer the document is as well. This feature allows you to automatically fax a two sided document. It not only saves paper, but it enhances your productivity. Saving paper is a plus when you are dealing with printing, especially if you print out a lot of pictures. The best way to save on picture paper is to print a test copy on regular sheets of paper. Photo paper is very expensive and you don’t want to waste three or four sheets printing test pages. TOP 10 – DON'T Overlook These 10 Things When Buying a Printer for Your Business

The type of printer(s) your business requires will depend on your businesses’ size, needs and budget. Most people know they must decide between color and monochrome, stand-alone or multi-function, and that the more options the printer has the more expensive it is, but DON’T overlook these 10 important features that save your business time and money in the long run.

The first feature to consider is duty cycle. The duty cycle is the maximum amount of printed pages the printer can produce in a month’s time. This is especially important if your company prints a lot, so make sure you buy one that is designed to meet your workload requirements.

The second feature is ppm, or page per minute, which is used to measure printer speed. Time is money, so ask yourself if you print in bulk or if you print only a few things at a time and how long you’re willing to wait. If you’re printing in bulk, then you need to buy a printer that starts up and prints quickly. A laser printer will best suit your needs since inkjet printers have a much lower ppm. Laser printers also cost less over time when you have a moderate to heavy workload since you don’t have to replace the toner as often as inkjet ink cartridges.

The next feature to consider is resolution / print quality. Resolution is determined by the dots per inch (DPI). Usually, the higher the DPI, the sharper the image. Decide what level of quality you need, which depends upon what types of documents you print, and buy accordingly.

Another important feature that you should consider is networking / connectivity. If you and the rest of your company want to work off of one network so you can all print to one printer, then you need an Ethernet network. While most printers have a Parallel, USB, or high-speed USB 2.0 port to connect to one computer, not all printers are network compatible. If networking is important, make sure the printer you want has this option. Many printer manufacturers offer printer servers as an additional option.

Businesses should also look at printers that have plenty of memory. If several people are printing on the same network and are printing to one printer, finding a printer that has a lot of memory is key to running your business smoothly since it will ensure your documents won’t get lost in printer “space” while waiting to print.

Duplex printing is another handy feature for businesses. Duplexing is the ability to print on both sides of the page. One-page faxes with a cover sheet only take one sheet of paper instead of two, and that’s just one way to save tons of paper.

The seventh feature to consider is the paper tray capacity & size. If you print in bulk you need something that can hold at least 500 sheets of paper so you are not constantly re-filling. Additionally, you should think about what size paper you use. If you often print different sizes you can use another tray to hold a different sized paper, such as legal, so you don't have to switch paper in a single tray every time you need to print something different.

While price isn’t the best measure of selecting a printer, it’s still important. Look into how often you have to replace the toner and drum to get a feel for its total cost of ownership. Make sure you get the best price once you determine speed, quality, and options you need.

You may also want to consider buying an extended warranty for peace of mind. Most printers come with a one-year limited warranty, but if you use it quite a bit and it’s critical to business, then you may want to add-on an additional 12 to 24 months…It will save you money in the long run.

How to Properly Clean an LCD Monitor

Keeping your LCD monitor screen clean can be very hard to do, especially if you have little fingers in your house. Even in the work environment, it can be hard to keep the LCD screens clean. Dust particles are flying all over the place. People are sneezing or coughing on them. At home you may have kids that are playing games on the computer. They feel like they need to touch the monitor while they are playing. Their hands may have remnants of peanut butter and jelly, or other foreign objects. You want to keep your screen clean, but with all this going on it seems almost impossible.

There is hope for you though. First you need to turn the screen off so you can properly see all the smudges and fingerprint marks. The best way to clean your LCD monitor screen is by using water and vinegar, or water and isopropyl alcohol. Do not use Windex or some other furniture product. It seems easy to just dust the screen when you are dusting the furniture around it, but this can cause damage. Some of these products have ammonia in them and over time will cause damage to your screen.

When preparing your solution for cleaning, do not use regular water out of the faucet. You will need distilled water. Regular tap water will leave marks on your screen. Make sure that you have a soft cloth to clean the screen with too. A microfiber or 100% cotton cloth works best. Just do not use anything that is abrasive. A lint free cloth is perfect. The cloths that you use for cleaning your eye glasses with may work as well.

Once you have found your cloth, then you can mix your solution. The amount of each liquid, the isopropyl alcohol and the water, should be fifty fifty. If you use vinegar, then use the same amount also. Mix them gently in a spray bottle and spray them on the cloth. Do not ever spray the LCD screen directly. The liquid can run in to the bottom of the screen causing damage. If you are cleaning a laptop, make sure that you wipe the screen completely dry before you close.

You can buy LCD cleaning supplies at many stores like Wal-Mart, Best Buy or Office Depot. The solution has the same ingredients as your homemade cleaner. You will just come out a little cheaper by making them at home. Add to Technorati Favorites Furl
