WS FTP Pro 8 is an industry-leading file transfer protocol (FTP) client software. Automated new HotDrop and Active Edit features save users significant amounts of time by eliminating transfer steps including establishment of FTP server connections and opening of applications for easier server-side editing. Added security, including support for 128-bit SSL running behind a firewall, provides users greater confidence when transferring sensitive information. Users also experience easier file navigation with new thumbnail view capabilities for easier identification, management and transfer of images.
FTP beginners will find WS FTP Pro 8's HotDrop feature especially attractive since it simplifies the entire FTP process. HotDrop is a desktop icon that executes file transfers without the user having to run the WS FTP Pro 8 client. Users drag files and folders onto the HotDrop icon, which is designated for a specific FTP site folder. The FTP process automatically begins, and the files are transferred without any further action required from the user. Users can have several HotDrop icons for various FTP sites that they connect to regularly and subsequently realize significant timesavings.
WS FTP Pro 8's Active Edit feature automatically opens an application associated with a file when selecting a server-side file. Active Edit also automatically saves files back to the server upon closing. Both tasks are seamless and do not require the user to manually perform them.
A new Auto Reconnect feature is helpful to users who continually visit the same site or sites. Auto Reconnect automatically opens the last local and remote folders used so that when opened, WS FTP Pro 8 will look exactly as it did when it was last closed.
WS FTP Pro 8 makes transferring files more secure in several ways including SSL through firewall/NAT support where users can specify a port range and an IP address for incoming traffic when running over SSL; ASCII transfer over SSH/SFTP; the ability to manage multiple client SSL certificates; implicit SSL support; SOCKS 4 and SOCKS 5 proxy support; and SSH security configuration capabilities (ciphers, MAC, compression).
