Comments about Tripp Lite SmartRack SR25UB Rack Enclosure:
I finally made the plunge and moved my web servers into a rack enclosure. I did look at a lot of different options, but the TripLite SmartRack came out on top in my comparisons. My main requirement was to have a flexible rack that can handle different manufacturers because they all use different standards to mount a server to a rack. So far this rack didn't disappoint me and so I have DELL, IBM and HP machines playing nicely together. One word of warning: This rack is quite deep. Mostly this is a plus because you won't have any issues with servers or appliances not fitting the rack, but you always need to make sure that the rails can be extended to the needed length. Of course I should mention that you can also simply shorten the entire rack internally if needed. This can come in handy if you, like me, plan to guide all cables in the back of the rack. Overall, this is a rock solid rack that is nicely designed. The quality of the materials also exceeded some other racks I looked at. So, nothing bad to report? Well, there is one thing. It could be more quiet. My home office is quite large, but, depending on your server machines, this will give you a noisy work environment. However, this will be true for almost all other racks unless you are willing to spend big money (~$3k) for the sound proof ones. I might eventually upgrade to one of those, but for now I am good.
Service and delivery comments:
The product arrives on a pallet. Since it has wheels it can be moved by a single person on the same floor, but you will need some friends to move it up to a different floor.
