Canary Communications introduces the first 1000 Mbps Gigabit Ethernet converters. The GFC series of converters enable the user to benefit from the increased bandwidth of Gigabit Ethernet while overcoming the distance limitations associated with 1000 Mbps data speeds. As Fast Ethernet backbones become saturated, Gigabit Ethernet becomes more attractive, but the technology is expensive and generally not needed at the desktop. The answer is to selectively implement Gigabit Ethernet into the network. Canary's Gigabit fiber optic converters are part of the solution. Canary's Gigabit converters allow pre-existing fiber optic segments to function as Gigabit backbones. The investment in your legacy network is preserved without the cost and headache of a "fork-lift" upgrade. Use the GFC 1000 Mbps fiber optic converters to ease your transition into Gigabit Ethernet. The GFC converters provide clean, reliable conversion between multi-mode and single-mode fiber and between 1300 nm and 850 nm rated connectors. Only SC-type connectors are available for Gigabit connections. The GFC series converters provide for data transmission speeds ranging from 500 Mbps to 1000 Mbps. Note: Canary's Gigabit converters will not function if attached to Canary's earlier Fast Ethernet (100 Mbps) converters. Canary's GFC series has combinations of 260 m, 440 m, 550 m and 5 km ports offering a selection of ranges from 520 m to 10 km. This flexibility enables the user to customize their fiber optic network maximizing performance while minimizing the cost usually associated with extending fiber optic installations.
