Canary Communications CFC-9121 Multi-mode to Single-mode Transceiver

Canary Communications has responded to industry demands for additional transmission range by introducing its Fast Ethernet fiber-to-fiber converters. These units allow users to incrementally extend their fiber optic network transmission range. By providing interconnection between standard multi mode and longer ranged single mode fiber types, the CFC series allow users to economically tailor each fiber segment to their exact needs. Now, the range and connection limitations of standard multi mode fiber are easily overcome. Canary's CFC series provides clean, reliable conversion between multi mode and single mode fiber and between 1300 nm and 820 nm type connections. A choice of ST or SC connectors allows connection to existing fiber optic equipment. Not limited to Ethernet, each CFC may be used to transparently link stations using alternate protocols. Pairs of ATM devices, FDDI pairs or Token-Ring pairs may be linked at up to OC-3 speeds! Canary's CFC series has combinations of 700 m, 2 km, 8 km, 15 km, and 40 km ports offering a selection of ranges from 2,700 m to over 40 km. This flexibility enables the user to customize their fiber optic network maximizing performance while minimizing the cost usually associated with extending fiber optic installations. Link Fault Signaling gives the host (router, switch or server) attached at each end of the CFC converter; critical information about the status of the other remote segment link. If either link fails, the CFC converter interacts with both hosts, making each instantly aware of the link fault. Either host can then execute preprogrammed, redundant transmission path selection. Link Fault Signaling is available on all Canary 100 Mbps converters that support the Link function.
