With iMac, details make all the difference. For example, because it’s made from a single sheet of aluminum, you won’t see any seams or screws except for a single compartment on the bottom that provides easy access to the memory slots. The built-in iSight camera and microphone are integrated so neatly you barely notice they’re there.

iSight
Built into the sleek iMac is an iSight camera so neatly integrated, you’ll hardly notice it’s there. That is, until you launch iChat AV, Photo Booth, or iMovie. Then it’s time to smile. No need to worry about installing or configuring.

It's easy to video chat with your friends and family over the Internet. Simply open iChat AV, find a buddy with a .Mac or AIM account, and start speaking. A high-performance microphone is built in on top of the iSight camera (the perfect location, because you just look at the camera to get the optimal sound). You can chat with one person or up to three others at a time. You can even have a one-way video chat if your friends don’t have their own webcams.

Connections
Most digital cameras, digital music players — such as the iPod — keyboards, mice, and external hard drives use the USB 2.0 standard to connect to a computer. The iMac can accommodate as many as five peripherals at a time thanks to its three USB 2.0 ports and the two USB 2.0 ports on the Apple Keyboard. And when you connect an iPod to one of the USB ports on the iMac, the iPod charges not only while your iMac is on but also while it’s in sleep mode.

For even more expansion possibilities, all iMac models include two powered FireWire ports: one FireWire 400 and one FireWire 800, which is one of the fastest peripheral standards available. With these ports, you can quickly transfer content from digital video cameras, hard drives, and other high-speed devices.

iMac has other connections, too. You can connect speakers or headphones to the digital/analog audio out port, a microphone or musical instrument to the audio in port, and a display or TV to the video out port. You can also use built-in Bluetooth to communicate wirelessly with PDAs, keyboards, mice, and other devices.
